Mycotoxin Binder-Aquaculture
Plant ingredients are increasingly being used in fish diets due to increase in fish meal & fish oil prices. Plant ingredients, however pose a high risk of mycotoxin contamination through mold infected ingredients. Thus, it demands appropriate protection strategies for contaminated feeds.
HSCAS:
Act as a toxin enterosorbent that effectively binds mycotoxins in the gastrointestinal tract of fish & prawn, decreasing their bioavailability and associated toxicities.
Activated Charcoal:
The inclusion of activated charcoal in the fish diet has received attention due to its non-nutritive and non digestible characteristics, giving it the ability to adsorb toxins from the gastrointestinal tract thus preventing their absorption in the body. Several researches have demonstrated that charcoal supplemented diet can improve fish growth, flesh quality and intestinal function (Quiayum et. Al., 2014, Lawal et.al., 2018, Michael & Helal., 2018).
Activated charcoal also absorbs gases specially nitrogen and ammonia. It has also been proven to be a good feed additives @ 2 % of body weight in the feed of aquatic animals such as tiger puffer fish, Japanese hounder, Pangasius hypophthalmus, Clarias gariepinus, Nile tilapia, Red tilapia hybrid & Gilthead seabream (Lawal et.al., 2018, Michael & Helal., 2018).
Benefits:
- Absorbs moisture aflatoxins & helps in absorption of nutrients
- Adsorb toxin gases like ammonia, H2S, Nitrogen and other poisonous gases
- Selectively binds common mycotoxins & chemical toxin
- Effective for tilapia depuration to reduce off flavor after harvest- Better FCR & Growth
